Beers Timber & Building Suppliers are an independent, family-run leading supplier of timber and building materials with over 100 years of history in the heart of Liverpool and Merseyside.
They pride themselves on first-class, local customer service, high quality products and supporting their incredible staff to develop and grow.
Currently operating from 7 locations in Warrington, Heswall, Bromborough, Hoylake, Birkenhead, Wythenshawe, and Liverpool with plans to add more depots in the coming years. They employ over 100+ staff members throughout the business, have over 30 fleet delivery vehicles and service around 150,000 customers each year.
We sat down with Dave Keogh, one of the Directors, who has been with the company for over 20 years starting fresh out of University on a graduate scheme.
The Challenges
After acquiring the depot, the project was based out of in Wavetree a few years ago, it was clear that Beers were going to need multiple storage solutions for inside the shop area, out in the yard and in the warehouse at the back of the building.
Having worked with another company on the last few storage and fit-out projects, they could have gone with the status quo but decided that it was time to tender out to other businesses in the industry.
Knowing that this was going to be a sizable project with lots to consider such as having the correct spacing between the racking because of the use of their Combi lifts, it was Total Interiors that made the cut and the project soon commenced earlier on this year.
The Solution

As we mentioned earlier on, the project was sizable and relatively complex with the following solutions put into place:
- Cantilever racking in the main yard to store large timber packs.
- Pallet racking in the warehouse to store bulk pallets of multiple products.
- Vertical racking to store shorter lengths of timber.
- And multiple rows of Gondola shelving in the main shop area.

Having reflected on the project, Dave takes lots of lessons from this depot, all of which can be taken into the next one. The wider industry and economy provide all UK businesses with challenges, but Beers are still looking to expand their impressive operations over the next few years.
